Working with Language and Cultural Difference

Child and Family Solutions is a Child Protection Consultancy based in Bristol, UK. We provide expert assessment services to statutory authorities and the Court, also to individuals, using an approach that builds upon many years' experience in Child Protection work and is informed by a Systemic Family Psychotherapy perspective. We specialise in the Resolutions approach to risk reduction in child protection cases where abuse is denied.

Risk Reduction Work with Minorities

Child and Family Solutions has a growing expertise in work with families whose origins are outside the United Kingdom, or whose first language is other than English. Work with these families requires accurate interpretation, and the worker has to pay careful attention not only to the language used but also to the influence of culture and religion upon the family dynamic.

We are fortunate to be able to call upon the services of expert interpreters who are also able to advise on the cultural context in which the risk reduction work takes place. Our experience is that cultural and language differences need be no barrier to effective risk reduction work.
